A short note on why Florida Mermaid exists — and what we mean when we say "designed by women, for women."
I started diving the same way a lot of women do — borrowing my dad's gear, then my brother's, then a friend-of-a-friend's. The fins were too long, the mask cut into the bridge of my nose, the wetsuit hung off my shoulders. Everything was built for a body shape that wasn't mine, in colors that looked like a hardware store.
When I finally had the money to buy my own kit, I went looking for something that fit and felt like me. What I found was a women's section that was, charitably, an afterthought. The same gear, dyed pink, marked up 20%.

I wanted a wetsuit cut for hips and a chest. A mask with a skirt that fit a smaller face. Fins with foot pockets shaped around a higher arch. I wanted colors that came from the water I love — turquoise sandbars, sage springs, coral blooms — not pastel approximations.
And I wanted gear that came as a set. Not "buy the mask one place, the snorkel somewhere else, the fins from a third brand and hope the colors don't fight." When you spend a day in the water, you don't want your eye drawn to a mismatched strap. You want to look in the mirror and feel like every piece was made together. Because in our case — it was.
That's the whole pitch. Snorkeling gear designed by women, for women, sold as coordinated collections. We're not trying to reinvent the industry. We're just trying to make the gear we wish existed when we started.
